Hi all.

Purchased Civ5 3 days ago (first time player here) and am having problems getting the game to run using DirectX 11.

My system specs are:
Windows 7 x64
Asus Rampage Extreme III | i7 920 @ 4.0GHz | 6GB Corsair Dominator | 2x Asus 5870 Crossfire | OCZ RevoDrive 120GB | OCZ Vertex 2 120GB |

Here are two screen shots:

Thus far I have updated DirectX 11 runtime executable dated June 2010. Closed background applications. Updated drivers right across the board from Videocard, chipset, and so on.

I can play the game running DirectX 9 and only once at around turn 500+ the game hung and wouldn't come out of it, until I pressed Esc, saved the game, closed the game, restarted and loaded saved game. Then it was working fine again.

But as far as playing with DirectX 11 is concerned it just wont work, and I end up with a black screen, system hang, and many times not even Ctrl + Alt + Del will get me out of it.

Would really appreciate a fix for this.

Cheers.

Welcome to CFC :).

Seems to be a problem with defective memory.

First thing is, that you should test your RAM, if it's okay.
Use this program for testing. You should let it run some time (minimum a half hour, better a complete one), and if no error occurs, then the RAM is not the source of the issue here.

To make reasonably sure, it's usually advised to at least run it over night.

I assume you already counterchecked by running your system at stock settings?
What type of PSU are you using?

Might be a good idea to try it also with a "barebone" system, i.e. only one video card, only one RAM stick, everything set at default. If that works, adding/upping stuff ontil it won't.

The system is fine. I've ran numerous tests already, including MemTest, Prime95, Furmark, demos and so on. Games and stress test demos work fine. My PSU is an 850W which is enough for the set up I have. Since my original post, I've found this issue is widespread across many forums. Unfortunately thus far, no one seems to know why the use of DX11 is causing issues.

Really hoping a fix is available soon.

Then it's maybe a corrupted entry on the harddisk, so a disk check is worth a try.
Windows key + R, type in chkdsk c:/f (assuming c is the partition/harddrive where the system and/or civ is installed), then yes, restart the computer, let that program run, then try it again.
