I tried to install the patch, first through the program, than by downloading the patch from this website and running it as administrator. I tried running the program from the downloads directory and from the patch folder in the civilization directory. The install shield starts, but when I get to the final step of the install shield and press install, the install shield closes down and does not install the patch.
I had an older version of vanilla civ on my computer and installed civ complete(dvd) onto the computer over the vanilla version. I don't know if this is what is causing the problem. I assumed that installing civ iv complete over civ vanilla would recognize my older copy of civ iv and just install the expansion packs, but it installed a second copy of civ iv on to my computer.
I tried uninstalling the older copy of civ iv to see if that would solve the problem, but I got a 5004 0x8.... error. I saw on this forum that there was a way to solve that error so I followed the steps given and now I don't get the error but the install shield doesn't even start to uninstall civ iv. I can still uninstall civ iv complete, as I tried that and was successful, but after I reinstalled civ iv complete I was still unable to install the patch. I stil got the install shield closing down after hitting the install button on the last page.
I tried running a regirstry cleaner, which didn't solve the problem. I manually deleted the cfc file from the install shield directory, I manually deleted references to civ iv in the registry before I reinstalled civ iv complete, but those steps only stopped the error message from occuring, and didn't allow me to uninstall the old version of civ iv.
I'm really just guessing as to if the duplicate program is even the issue as there may be something else wrong, but I wanted to give as much information as possible so if anyone has any ideas on how I can get patch 3.19 to install they will be able to help me.
I would really like to resolve this issue and would be very greatful to anyone that can help. Thanks
