Hello Folks,

I'm new to the game, Civ 3 Complete on Steam. I'm playing my first non-Conquest game.

I have perhaps 10 towns. One of the early towns, Boston, won't let me irrigate anywhere. Not even grasslands. When I first built the town, I put a couple of workers on auto. They went around and built mines everywhere. Even on grassland. The town has expanded. I can't irrigate the grassland mine squares or the new fresh grassland squares. The town is near the ocean and I do have an aqueduct in this town now.

Any ideas why I can't irrigate?

Could it be a glitch that can be fixed somehow?

Harry

Does it have access to fresh water? In other words, does it have access to an already irrigated square, a lake, or a river?

Can you post a screenshot or save?

While one square is in the ocean with fish and being worked by a citizen, there is no lake or river. That must be the problem. Is there another way to irrigate?

I see that my first city, Washington, can't irrigate either. Bad choice for location. Washington has been limited, but if I could get it to expand, it looks like it will reach a river. Have to build wonders and such.

Not until you learn Electricity or you can drag the water from some other fresh water source... I'll check your save here.

You could drag water from a location near Washington.

But, Boston can't irrigate until you learn Electricity. That said it can't grow anymore either until you get a hospital, so I don't see any need for irrigation in Boston.

Thanks a lot Spoonwood,

I can't irrigate, but at least now I know what's happening.

For Washington, by dragging water nearby, you mean I have to get Washington to expand so that some of it's tiles cover the river? Or, is there some other way to drag water. Oh, maybe I can irrigate a nearby river square and then keep irrigating toward the Washington tiles? I'll try that later when I can get back to the game.

Thanks,
Harry

No. I mean you have to irrigate a square next to, in this case, a river first and then irrigate towards Washington. You could also plop down a city next to fresh water and then irrigate from the tiles next to that city.
