Can't patch game - No previous version?

When I try to install the patch, I get:

The setup has detected that no previous version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is installed.

This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed.

But it is installed, and it launches fine. It also shows up in my "Remove Programs" section.

I downloaded the game (legally) from Direct2Drive could this be the problem?

The 1.09 patch had the same problem with d2d versions. So in short, yes you have to wait for a special d2d version.

Yes Direct2Drive is the issue here - any Patch for any game has to be tweeked by them before their customers can use it, Firaxis cant get involved, its a Direct2Drive issue and part of their Customer terms & conditions.

They usually get them out a fews days after the official patch is released, so it should be too long a wait for you - I hope...
