Can't start-up at most resolutions

Not sure what information is pertinent, so I'll post the details first and if other information is needed, please let me know.

When starting up the game, I get through the load portion and as soon as I get to the initial (movie) credits, I get dropped back to the desktop (with Civ IV minimized). This happens at all resolutions above 1024x768.
At the higher resolutions, the game starts (I can continue to hear the sound), but it minimizes within seconds whenever I open it up. I'm not running the newest of graphics cards (it's an ATI X700 with the 5.13 drivers), but I would expect it to start and run slowly (or tone down the graphic levels) rather than start but minimize itself.

Make sure Patch V1.52 is loaded, and please post your Dxdiag if still issues post patch, with all symptoms you can remember however small they are, whatever seems strange

Start Button - click - select run - type dxdiag - press enter - wait a min - select "save all information" - post using the 'go advanced ' button below.

The above assumes you are within the game minimums for hardware & Operating System - if not its pointless downloading the Patch, it willnever run satisfactorily

One other thing. If I am patient (and wait out the intro movie), the game does appear to start. I recall seeing soem instructions on how to disable the intro movie - I'll give it a try.

Looks as tho you had the game running when you did the dxdiag, couldyou shut the game down then run it please ? post the new file here
