Greetings,

I'm new to the site. I was trying to create some mods and/or civs/leaders for my CIV 4: Gold Edition, specifically the Warlords Expansion Pack.

I was following the directions of Kael in his wonderfully helpful video series, but when it got to the part about copying XML files in the second video, there were no XML files in either the CustomAssets nor the assets files of Warlords to be seen. I tried with the normal version of CIV 4, too, but was faced with a similar experience.

Are the files being hidden somehow by the computer? Is there any way around this? Thank you in advance for your time. Feel free to email me @ michael_and_carina@yahoo.com.

Sincerely,

Michael B.

The XML files are located at the following spots.

For vanilla Civ4:
Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML
For Warlords:
Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Assets\XML
For BTS:
Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Assets\XML

Where "Sid Meier's Civilization 4" is the location that you installed the game.

The Warlords and BTS folders are empty on my system. I have a redirect to this directory C:\Documents and Settings\Dad\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\assets and 4 empty .fpk folders. I have run a windows search for the assets folders but can't find any other ones. Any idea where they might be hiding?

I do have the vanilla XML files in C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML.

On my system the Warlords and BTS folders are located in my Sid Meier's Civilization 4 folder. The assets folder for each is then located in the appropriate folder. The usual way of modding the game is to copy the files that you want to change into one of the mod folders which are located in the Warlords and BTS folders also. You can look at other mods to see how it is done.

I just thought of something else - did you purchase Warlords and BTS online. Sometimes when you purchase games online, they are install in a different location than normal. I don't know if this applies to Civ4, but I guess it could.

It should be

C:/ProgramFiles/2KGames/FiraxisGames/CivilizationIV/Warlords/Assets/

Or something like that, im not on my civ comp.
