Is it me, or does the AI civ not place enough emphasis on capital defense?
Capitals are usually a Civ's Prime city due to the hugh resource drops that get spluttered around them, i'm playing a game at the moment were a civ's capital is practically surrounded by tundra ice etc, yet the area directly around it is lush grassland + lots of tasty special resources
As this city is usually the finest in the empire it's the one most likely to end up with loads of wonders or other such assets like GG or priest specialists
It's also a fair bit likely to contain a shrine and the early religions are the ones that tend to dominate to so it can be highly valuable cash cow there too, in short a civ without it's capital city is effectively one thats had it's head cut off, especially in the first half of the game
However city defense in what is such a key city appears little better than in any other city, surely a capital especially a big one with lots of wonders and or a shrine should be bristling with defenders?, i took a capitial quite early recently in a game i recently played on noble and it had like 3 defenders? same as most of the surrounding cities
Since loosing such a city effectively spells military disaster in most situations i think extra defense should be drafted into capitals or cities with lots of wonders, very high commerce etc, key cities should have double the number of defenders that currently do, it's to easy to take them in surprise assaults and a quick raze can see it gone for good too, i think stronger defense is needed, as the AI does not seem to see much more value in a monster 21 pop city with loads of gear and a merely decent 14 pop one with a few buildings, i think a more intelligent approach to defense is needed here with a lot more defenders for key cities especially the capital city
