The poles, led by Marian Rejewski began to break Enigma in the eary 1930s, and after 1939 the Ultra Project at Bletchley Park intercepted and deciphered Enigma messages.
The battleship Bismarck was found by British reconnaissance aircraft off Bergen in May 1941.

France signed a peace treaty with Germany in 1940. They had no choice as they had been utterly defeated. Vichy France was therefore a neutral state. Petain REFUSED to join the Axis alliance even though Hitler wanted him to.

The French navy remained in French hands. But the allies decided to attack neutral France anyway (along with neutral Iraq, neutral Iran, neutral Norway and probably a few others I forget) and this included the French navy.

Vichy French ships where attacked by the americans at Casablanca during Op Torch

That is because Vichy troops in general were attacked by Americans (and Britons), as West North Africa (er, Northwest Africa, that is :D ) was part of Vichy France. The Allies invaded Vichy, hence also having to deal with part of their fleet.
