Quite a lot of starts here, and none of them was satysfying for me. I tried 3 continents first to make AIs underdeveloped, but it occured either isolated start or a weak one or very late date when going oversea.

I changed settings to 2 continents and cold climate and it worked, my starts were definitely better - at least I had contact with 2-4 AI's and in most cases close to each other.

I am not that kinda of player who fights to the last blood, so I am definitely not familiar with conquest games. Actually, I cant even remember if I ever made conquest on monarch or above on a mapscript different than terra. The game was very very difficult, I had no experience and knowledge hw many units is enough and how many is too much, but finally I managed to win my first emperor conquest ever! Even though I definitely overexpanded the begining and negletd micro (I even had units on strike :D)

In my game there were Justinian and Napoleon isolated on a small tundra island (their capitals were even bordering), so I was lucky to have 2 most dangerous and annoying oponents far awawy and with no chance to tech effectively. Northern landmass of this hemisphere was settled by Dutch, English and Germans, each 6-8 cities. When I attacked Willem, he had a knowledge of Assembly Line, was 2 turns to Fascism, but he forgot about Rifling on his way :D Poor him
On my landmass there were all other civs and luckily they were warring each other :] 4-5 cities was typical for them, so quite easy to vassalise. I was really amazed by Alexander who occured to be a wonderspammer! I was so happy when I took Athens with Mids, Apostolic Palace, Buddist shrine, chicken pizza, shwedagon..... Unftunately I had to give it back at the end of the game to avoid crossing domination limit.

AD 1808 maybe is not a good date, but far better than I expected
