Changing difficulty

I just started a game on a huge, 362x362 earth map with 16 civilization including mine. I have a macbook 2GB ram, 2.0GHz dual core intel processor.

a) is my computer fast enough to play this game to the end?
b) how do I change the difficulty once the game is started?

Sounds more powerful then my piece of junk. You should be okay. You might experience some lag in the later game, though, depending on the difficulty leavel. Anything up to about Monarch should be no problem. Emperor is iffy-iffy. Demi & higher could get slow on the IBT.
