Changing Scenario maps

I'm extremely new to Civ 2. I'm curious if there's a way to get procedurally generated maps for the different scenarios in the Fantastic World scenarios. Like, if I want the Ice Planet scenario but with a different map, how do I go about doing that?

I know I can make a copy of the Civ 2 folder, then replace things with their scenario parts (like units, etc.) but I don't really want to play on the Ice Planet scenario against the Vikings or whatever. I'd rather it just be the factions in the scenario itself.

It's been forever since I've played that scenario but am I recalling it right that it's one of the ones (like Mars or Dinosaurs) where you basically start off with a settler-type unit and go from there? If so, it's basically a modpack and you would do exactly what you said here:

The reason you may see "Vikings or whatever" listed as a civ is probably because the author didn't change all of the civs, and only the first 7 in the rules text. All you'd need to do is copy the first 7 lines over the next 7 lines, and then once more (so you have three sets. For example, here is this technique in "Cold War." Notice how everything repeats? That's what you want.

Thanks! I'll test it out.

I tend to be heavily into retro games, so about half the 4x games I play are all in the 90s or very early 2000s (Master of Orion, Master of Magic, Civ 3, etc.). I was attracted to Civ 2 because there's a lot of mods and such for it, and I generally like games that have a lot of graphical/scenario variety but maintain the same basic structure. In the case of Civ 2, when I found out about the Fantastic World Add-Ons, I knew I had to give it a shot. I didn't play these games growing up as a kid but I just generally like games that remind me of DOS, Windows 95, 8 bit and 16 bit consoles, all that.

You should check out Civ2 ToTPP - I can help you find a copy. Most (though not all) of the older scenarios have been updated to TOT and the "PP" (patch project) adds powerful lua scripts to the fold. If you enjoy scenarios, you'll love it.
