"Cheap" tips for 2 vs 2

I found my new passion in multi : the 2 vs 2 ! In 2 vs 2, it is more difficult to rush than in duel (even in ancient start), cause the map is bigger, and you are relatively isolated. And it is still a fair game, not like FFA. So, imo, it is more interresting.

I have played some games, and I notice some "tips" that I would like to share. And I would like to know yours.

1 - Special units gifting

First, the more obvious : depend on the civ you have, you can combine special Ability of units between civs. For instance, you can give a Jaguar to your Japan ally : You will have a deadly super Jaguar-Samurai. Or give a Jaguar to Rome, you have a Jaguar-Legion : 13 strenght, move 2 in forest/jungle, +2 heal when killing units, +50% strength in jungle. Unstoppable ! Moreover, it can build roads !
You can think as well to :
-Janissary+Foreign legion.
-MinuteMan+Foreign legion
-Keskik+Cossak

In a recent game, we had Persia+America team, In golden age with persia, your american native units who join Persia have 3 moves and you can see 3 tiles away. That's also a big advantage over "basic" units.

2 - Defence with City Gifting

One of your city gonna fall ? Gift it to your ally when the city life bar is in "red" : Your ally will receive it with half of the life bar. You can do it several times. It is REALLY cheap...

3 - India city gifting

I never try it, but I just thinking if it is possible to exploit the "courthouse bug" when your are in team with India. Meaning : you gift one of your city to india, your ally, when you have courthouse and a decent prod in the city. India annexed it and build courthouse. You have no Hapiness penalty for the city (courthouse bug) and only half of the unhapiness for citizen.
Does someone try this ? Is it realistics to do while developing/fighting ?


If you have other tips for 2 vs 2, I would like to hear from you.
 
Good post, I would argue that upgrading a Keshik with promotions to anything that it not a tank is a downgrade.

How about 3 vs 3 games... take all of your combos and gift them to Persia for golden age! Early game Jag-Legions... maybe going the Honor tree might work here against all those liberty starters:

Golden Jag-Legion:
Movement: 3
Woodsman promotion, heals 2 on kill, jungle bonus 50%
Base strength: 13
Golden age bonus: +10%
Honor Policy: +10%
Great General: +20%
Final strength: 18.2! When fighting in jungle...24.7!!!

I would like to test this out... for real lutz set up a jungle map...

thats kind of exploiting, on other hand wont usually matter in practise as a half dead city as kind of same as totaly dead city

and all the unit gifting sounds also better in theory as in practise, espacially at later times some1 having to move double as many units as other as he got all the gifted stuff (persia f.e.) will have a hard time doing all the moves and will be at disatvantage at a 2 front war vs 2 guys moving units.

And if the back guy is the one with the "special gift me bonus" its lot of units moving back and forward
 
gift iron city to russia to double iron (russia / rome)

1 player spams wonders and gets gold from other to rush buy the early buildings, then switches to gold to gift back for army, other player makes units and rexs to be main army civ. (eygpt/ germany)

gift a city for other player to raze if really need to stop another civ puppeting it.

agree 2 x clickfest is good, but often i find the need for communication can cause problems in clickfest situation so maybe 1 player with the units can outperform.

great wall and hijemi do not carry over to other players lands, so plant a junk city up front to launch attack from/ defend.

In general, 1 front = 1 player because you need to be coordinate. And you have one principal front, and sometime, one secondary front.

The "Army" guy is determined at the beginning with his capital position. And indeed, unit gifting are usualy from the guy in the back to the guy in front. So you have to be lucky to do special unit "combo".

Playing with microphone is a great advantage for coordination and team moves, and funnier as well.

Another consideration : great scientist are more powerfull in 2v2 because tech are realively more expensive. So Porcelaine tower is better, and you should always put scientist in University.
