If you have any cheats, tips, strategies, or somthing else having to do with that, Post here. My favorite strategie:
TOT; Fantasy; Buteos: When you discover beast dominion, build 16 great egle. then fly them to a spot directly above an enemy city, where you attack with all of the eagles at once.
My best tips:
  • Recuperate: After an attack by the AI, let yourself regain strength before attacking them.
  • Stand strong: Attack in strong bursts. Not meak drips.
  • And last but not least; Defend yourself: Unless to lure the AI into a trap, don't leave any city undefended under ANY circumstances.
That's all I can say here.(I tried to post this before, but apperantly, it was over 15000 charecters(hard to belive)).

P.S.(I don't know any cheats but the ones in the menu:( )

T.T.Y.L.

Your post is 800 characters. In this forum, I think I've only seen starlifter write posts as big as 15000 characters.:) A link to his thread could be appropriate here.

About 255 is the max number of cities, and many (most but me) have at least once reached that limit.

Many of my cities go undefended throughout the entire game.

Edit to add qualifier: ...when I'm not playing OCC and I actually manage to finish an "entire game"!!! ;)

Do you even need to keep gold ready? Recently the barbs landed, killed off all the pieces but waited until the next turn to take the city. Figuring they would demand my gold I took the opportunity to rush buy increments during the interceding turn. My concern was more with spending money than the need for improvements (I imagined myself as my wife!) As a result the barb demanded 85 gold (half of what I had left) instead of what he might have expected before my spree.

I also find it cheaper to buy back after declining tribute than what the tribute costs.

Is this SOP, the demand is a function of treasury?

Is there a "formula" for predicting when they will offer you the out and when they will wait before taking the city?

I've never had to pay them off anyway!
I always get ransom for tere leader after I capture him.
They are too weak also. I can fend off a barbara warrior
with one of my settles. hat is one of many bugs in the program.
Settlers are suposed to have attack and deffense of 0.
And yet they easily beat barbarians!

Wrong on two counts. First, there are never barbarian warriors in civ2. I think the lowest level units are horses and archers. Second, all the documentation I've seen consistently states that settlers have a defense of 1 and hitpoints of 2 (something usually reserved for post-gunpowder units) making them rather durable defenders by design.

So long as you have at least 50g, any time the barbarians are about to enter a city left undefended, they will offer to let it be spared for 1/2 of your treasury or 50g, whichever is greater. Paying them off will eliminate any barbs within your city radius, but does not affect those who are outside your radius.

[qoute]settlers have a defense of 1 and hitpoints of 2 [/quote]

Maybe what I'm thinking of is attack and fire power then.
If their attack is nill, I wander how they always defeat those barbs.?

My brother just confirmed this with me.
That was just an example. The barbarians
are still to easy to beat though. I think they
should make them as hard as normal units
in civilization III. Who's with me?

P.S.(It's not my fault that I like rebeling. I do it in CIVI 2 also.)

The ability of a unit to win a battle (and defeat an opponent) when attacked is determined by his defense rating only. Attack numbers have no impact when a unit is defending and defense numbers mean nothing when you are the one attacking. Basics of the battle mechanism.

At what level do you play? Are you usually playing King or below? If you follow that link in slowthinker's sig to the GL, and read the Barbarian Paper, you'll see that the barbs' attack rating is multiplied by a factor that is determined by the difficulty level of the game. Games less than King, the attack rating is diminished by 25% per level. Games above king the attack rating gets a bonus of 25% per difficulty level. That doesn't mean they aren't still easy to take care of, they just have stronger attacks.

Want stronger barbs? Play Deity.

Civ3 is already out, and from my experience (at lower levels only), they aren't too hard to beat.

I think I read somewhere that the barbarian archer only has 1 in defence, but don't know whether that was a rumor or not.

Wide thread.

I think I've bumped up against the max city limit, once -- happened a long time ago.

Best cheat -- boat chain.

Undefended cities? Lost two in the current GOTM 37 (but not to barbs) -- nice ones, too. Funny that the first city I "conquer" is mine.

Attacking with "overwhelming force" is good doctrine; however, one may want to consider the time dimension. One of the many side benefits of playing a succession game is that recognition of time -- failing to achieve your goal by the deadline may risk that goal for a long time...

(I would delete this, but I can't.)

In civ IV, they should make the barbs. harder on the easy levels, and still harder on the hard levels.
P.S. I forgot that it was out. I saw the add on the civfanatics home page.

I am now playing at king. Had you asked me a few months ago(though I wasn't a member then,) I would have said prince. Before that I was playing at the easiest level. I will have to try emperor sometime.

Thanks for the info. :thanx:

I often "give" a city with a barracks to barbs = my barb breeding farm. The barracks won't be destroyed. All produced units will be bribed.
So I get cheap veteran NONE-units during the whole game.

The maximum amount of cities I ever had was 254 (deity, map 125x80, 7 civs, raging hordes). I managed to conquer all AI cities except a pet city.
You need TONS of money to get rid of the massive pollution, but I made up to 70.000 gold a turn(!) with trade (after having built superhighways and airports).
