I stumbled across a highly useful article posted at Tom's Hardware site that provides understandable explanations for BIOS settings. I'm gonna print this and put it in my notebook.

Like many of us, I know enough about my hardware to be dangerous and in a few instances have been my own worst enemy, all in the name of "tuning" or "optimizing", usually as the result of reading some article on the web.

Real example: Some time ago I turned off a variety of XP services that were consuming resources. One of them related to LANs, which _at that time_ , I did not have. Recently I bought the LinkSys wireless stuff and had a terrible time with setup. Not even their tech support thought to ask me if I had disabled any related services. As soon as I enabled the service everything just fell into place. Doh!

So, point is, if you're all jammed-up witht the game not runing right, try resetting the BIOS to defaults.
