I've scowered with what we can see of the map (I really wished we had done a circular exploration rather than due north... This is a 5BCC game, not a normal game, and a small map, thus more cramped. To our SW and W looks like coast (would've been nice had we moved east or northeast, which was my gut feeling...), and there's a barb to the west, so I'd like to build here:

If you notice, the city does not overlap with the capital, which is very important. We'll have to hope that the land there is good... which is why I wanted a circular exploration path in the first place. ;) (I hinted at this weeks ago) I picked the 2 mountains because they'll give production later on...

Very nice spot, CT. I wonder if it's by the river.

And I know it's risque, but we could try sending the settler out on his own. We might not have 4 turns to spare here.

Yeah. It's a 5CC, so I say go for it. With civs being this close as it is (almost reminds me of DG4), it might be one of our only chances. We can use that mountain as a quick scout position before settling just to make sure there's no barbs.

Yeah. Maybe send that one East, the Third one North up by the sugar, the Fourth one West somewhere, maybe costal. Five.. uh... dunno

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking... but, let's settle this one and explore our surroundings. (That's more important than heading due north).

I agree. It looks like the settler would bee-line towards the mountain. Once there, it should have a good vantage-point.

If that spot is good, our warrior in Olympus would be produced at the exact year of the city settlement. If all goes well, I would think he could follow the same path as the settler, and if it looks like Civatonia will do fine explore NE after reaching the mountain.

I suspect S of the mountain is on the river, but SE is not. Building the settler before a 3rd warrior might have been a little short-sighted, I don't usually play raging barbs so losing a warrior so soon is quite unusual for me.

hopefully there will be grass and forest over there by the 2 mountains. if not... :(

If there's no river, then I don't mind. With only 5 cities for now, we won't have all the luxuries to take. So, size 6 will be a temporary stopping point so that the city doesn't become too unhappy. Remember, in a 5CC, you want the maximum tiles possible, since you don't know if you'll need them. That's why I put the placement there.

Also, the worker can build a road to that site, too.

I would suggest NE, near the sugar and the gold. That won't be a fertile spot with plenty of food, of course, but we could irrigate the terrain later. Aqueducts won't be a problem, because we have a river there. Plus, we can have extra trade from the gold there.

I liked that hill between those mountains, with a perfect overlap to Olympus, get in several river sqaures, gets the sugar and will be a great long term site.
It is almost directly north of Olympus.

That could be an option for the next city, but right now, there's a barb in the way/nearby. I'd like to see more of that area explored, though...

Is it just me, or does the city's name remind me of Civanator? ;)

That was Civantoria, but this is Civantonia. ;) (1 letter difference).

I thnk we should put it on the Grassland besiade the tile the worker is currently roading. It would provide a three-way riverside defense and allow for exploration in that area.

Good tactic for MP (AI is too dumb to know any better), but this is a 5CC. We need the most tiles we can get...

True. Too bad, I don't play MP. That and I'm only a beginner Monarch at best.

This has got to be a first. I don't think we have ever proposed a city city in the fog of war without some sort of debate.......

Luckily the site isn't too bad, although it doesn't have access to a river. Plus, are the unclaimed Wines now part of our cultural borders by default, because that argument didn't even come up in this thread.

DemoGames past have gotten a bad name because of the passion and "infighting" (not my term) that went along with deciding the course of our nation. However, I feel that this situation is much worse, as we just coast along with whatever is proposed.

We a backwards nation, people. Grow a passion for this game, or pack it up. Two major oversights in the thread for choosing our second city is unacceptable.
