there have been a few threads about this so i wanted to put one together about it..

giving away cities seems a great idea(i hadnt thought about it) but it seems ridiculous in that it means you never have to face a counter attack from an angry civ and take losses when you conquer a city..
you just loan it to a weak civ then take it back when ever you want..

question:surely this must be a cheat??

I think it would be more an exploit than a cheat. (Cheats are something that was coded in deliberately either for game testing purposes and/or as 'easter-eggs' and/or ...)

Anyway, there are hardly any kind of objective rules that tell you what always in any game is right or wrong to do. What there are are agreed on sets of rules that you agree also on when you play in a specific setting. For example, in you play HoF or GotM you play by those rules. If you play in an SG you agree by those rules. If you play for yourself then it is up to you. If you think that reloading is OK, then it is OK as long as you play for yourself. If you think that being at peace is against the rules, then so be it.

An exploit maybe a tactic for sure. You could just abandon it, so that would be neither a cheat nor an exploit. It is not something I would expect to use a great deal, but it has a place.

There are a lot of different reasons for gifting cities and not all of them involve avoiding defense in a city you have just taken.

It is not something that I do in every game but I do use this on occasion... for whatever purpose.
