Are there no way to prevent a city from this?

I would rather have my units kill of barbarians and gain the xp than having a city kill it.

It was possible in Civ 5.

Not sure what you are asking. Are you saying you don't want to kill barbarians with a city ranged attack? The game does not force you to use a city ranged attack. You can kill the barbarians with your units instead if you want to.

Yep, attacking units take damage from cities. There is no way to prevent this.

Fun-fact: I just sat here, thinking about why the smiley in his avatar has a mouth on its forehead until I realized I was misinterpreting the pose.

@topic: Well, attack it first before it can attack the city. :p

OK seems like I expressed it wrong.

A barbarian is near my city, next to my city I got a unit, I want to attack the barbarian with my unit to gain the xp, the unit don't kill the barbarian so I want to attack in the next turn. The game won't let me end the turn until the city ranged attack is done and thereby killing the barbarian.

Are there anyway to force the turn to end instead of using the ranged attack?

I wasn't even aware that the game did this, as there is not even a notification for city ranged attacks that I've seen.

If it's anything like Civ 5 then you're probably using the auto-end-turn function, in which case... try right-clicking the icon.

Have never had the problem of "having" to use the city's attack, I'm pretty sure I even missed using it a few times.

Yes I am also pretty sure I've missed using it before. If you do have auto-end turn on maybe that is the problem. Is there no way to manually end the turn in such a setting?

EDIT: Turned of auto end turn and now I can move on without the attack. Annoying you can't do it with auto on.

There are no icon like in Civ 5.

I attached the image of it.
