Hello folks.

I recently discovered the CBP mod with VP and I'm in love with the game once again!

I usually play as Rome. I just love creating new cities as soon as possible, having them super close to my capital (around 3 or 4 tiles away) and then slowly expand towards the enemy.

I love making my roads and cities as nice looking as possible (avoiding those horrible ring roads) but the problem is that when I take out my neighbour, usually their cities are in awkward positions and usually only have like two buildings in them (I tend to play aggresive early so I gain loads of land expanding).

So what I usually do now is create a settler as I'm about to capture a city and then raze it, placing my new city in a better spot after the old one is gone.

Is this viable at all? I've only started doing it and I can only find things on the internet regarding normal CIV 5 and not CBP..

I don't want to be hated by everyone for razing cities even though they start the wars first and I know that annexing or puppeting doesn't cause much trouble when they declare war but I don't know about razing, thanks!

Are you playing to win, or playing to have fun positioning cities and roads how you like? There is no correct way to play civ, so either answer is correct as long as you have fun

With that said, in terms of winning, this idea is pretty bad. Occasionally I will raze a city and replace it, but only extremely early in the game. The thing about Rome is the unique ability causes extra buildings to remain on conquest, so its a really bad idea as Rome. Your empire will be much stronger overall if you keep the buildings.

The AI rarely positions so poorly that this would be a necessary step to fixing it. Plus the AI loves to buy tiles quickly, and Rome gets a bunch of free tiles on conquest. If you are going to raze cities like this, you are undoing a bunch of Rome's benefits

I'm playing to win but also want to try and make it look nice at the same time if I can manage to.

I forgot to mention that I would be only doing this early since towns at the start suck and only have like one building in them that's not worth keeping even as Rome. I will be keeping the more evolved cities rather than razing them but I just hope that razing them at the start won't ruin my reputation for the rest of the game like in CIV 5 vanilla.

Even 1-2 buildings and 2-3 extra population worth usually worth saving. In terms of winning. Moreover puppets do not do anything bad to you. I raze only very bad cities, those that do not have any hammers or any food (sometimes AI builds weird cities near, for example a city near a Natural Wonder, but completely surrounded by desert)
