Civ 1's owners

Well, looking through the history of this particular forum, a couple of things have been disputed that I have gotten answered officially.

1) Who owns the rights to Civ1 and is there an official website?

Infogrames owns the rights to civ1 and there is NO official website.

2) Is downloading Civ1 legal? NOTE: This isn't really disputed but some do not believe that this is true.

NO, it is illegal to download Civ1. It is not abandonware or freeware so don't get fooled!

For some reason, this stuff bugged the hell out of me so I finally contacted infogrames and found out the truth!

I recently bought a copy of Civ 1 and Colonization in the Explorers box, both games on one CD from Office Max; I think the game had been in the store a long time, but it still can be found.

Of course it's illegal to download civ 1.... but now go and arrest all people who do that. Who has never ever copied one amiga games a long time ago? or any pirated game?

NO ONE HAS EVER COPIED OR DOWNLOADED CIV1. People put up those downloads to test their systems. No one would want to do anything illegal. No, not anyone..

Thank you all for the reminder that downloading Civ is illegal. Now my own reminder: people who post links to Civ download sites get banned. How we're done with reminders, I'm going to close what is arguably becoming a provocative thread before its irony gets misunderstood.
