civ 3 gold installation problem

I recently purchased the civ 3 gold and civcity rome combo pack. I already know that autorun installation won't work on windows 7 or vista. I've tried that already and researched it. I've tried manually installing using the setup file, but my computer compelety freezes every time I try to access the disk. I have to eject the disk before I can do anything on the computer. Is there a solution to this problem?
