I have vista home edition, a 160 GB harddrive in my computer so its not a memoryr issue. I have all the sound cards adn video cards up to date.
Also iam a total computer newbie. I can bearly un instal somthing without getting lost.
Any help would be appreciated.
It could be a memory issue.
The size of the hard drive, for you, 160 GB, is not the problem. The memory in question is the RAM, which is usually expressed in MBs or GBs and is found on thin wafers called 'sticks' that go into special 'slots' on the motherboard.
Your hard drive is like your kitchen pantry. It is used for storage. You need something and you go get it. The RAM is like the countertop space in the kitchen, which is where you have to place things and mix things together to make a meal. Most kitchens have a lot of things on the countertops (toasters, cannisters, dish rack, utensils and just plain junk) which make it harder to do any kitchen work/meal preparation because they take up space and get in the way. The more free countertop space you have, the easier it is to cook and bake.
The RAM works the same way. And many programs just insist that they run at start up and take up space in RAM and do nothing. Like Adobe's Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.1. It doesn't wake up until you try to open an image file and then it makes a big production of starting up and getting in your way. Those kind of programs you don't need to run at startup. The trick is to identify the bad ones and make sure they don't bother you anymore.
So, first you need to determine how much RAM you have (which is buried in the Control Panel somewhere) and then how much you are using when you run the game. That will be trickier. For WinXP, I use CachemanXP from Outer Technologies, which is a freeware tool. No charge to download or to use. As of today, they do not have a version for Vista.
You may want to go to Download.com, part of CNET, a good place, and try to find a memory size display program for Vista.
