What's the world map like in Civ 3? I'm in New Zealand and it doesn't come out here for a another week or so.

It is pure trash... everythings is distorted, no proportions,
no accuracy...

but very soon people will work out good maps, probably there
is a way to convert the many good civ2 maps into civ3 maps,

and let´s hope somebody finds out the way to put every
civilization in its correct starting point

Theres NO New Zealand...lol...

Oh bugger...I generally play only earth as I like it to be realistic. Is there a good map editor included in the package? I might try and turn my hand to it myself.

I have another 2-3 days to wait until UPS delivers, so I've only been relying on screenshots - seems the "overall" world map (e.g. the one in the bottom left window) looks perfect, but I saw a West European shot of the main game screen, and it seems as though Spain is a tortured starfish and France appears as a bit of a splotch shape. Was that the real thing?

PS: no notes yet on what the two included "scenarios" - e.g. maps - are. I presume the world map is one, what's the other?

a huge world map

No New Zealand??? WTH??? Is their a Britain or Japan? Does anyone have a screenshot?

Yes....there is a Britain and a Japan, but they are small...the whole map is goofed...In fact...Im gonna start making a world map right now...

that scenarios can be finely edited.

A person could make such maps as say 1940 France/German stand off.

But doing so would have to mean manipulating the cities, treaties, mentality (making German basically a raging lunitic .. oh wait .. that was the leader .. nevermind). Taking a huge map, one would think they could get things pretty fine grained including troop positions.

Another possibile scenario would be Desert Storm. Where the goal would be to get kuwait back (and give the Kuwaites back there cities). Would require Saudia Faction, and also a strong right of passage from them for the Americans (unbreakable treatie?)

Even Korea, Vietnam, East/West Germany Cold war stand off, Battle of the Bulge, etc. All of these "local" areas could be very nicely isolated on a huge map. But again .. the major question is to what extent will a person be able to fine grain the scenario to play out as historical? (starting locations, diplomacy, etc)

Could even come to being able to modify the time scale and also Units (aka, remove say scouts and are replaced with Panzer II German tanks for the Battle of the Bulge)

Also the fun part is playing either side ..

Our playing experience may just be starting.

I just hope they make an scenario editor that allows us to disable the 'randomize player starting locations' thingie... so that I can just start where my CIV's supposed to start on a world map!

Does the huge world map also leave out New Zealand, and screw up Japan, the British Isles, etc.???

Well, judge for yerself... The "player start" text is somewhere near Paris...

New Zeeland is represented by a shallow area in the ocean  .
At least yer triremes won't sink there
