If I were you I would be really thankfull to the game that started it all.(And this is coming from someone who has never played Civ 1)

Wow, these screens bring back such EXTREMELY old memories. I can remember playing over and over again - all the wrong way of course because I hardly understood the real mechanics of the game - so long ago. I played on a 486SX on Windows 3.1, the thing didn't even have a sound card. :crazyeye:

Using the settlerwagon to irrigate tiles and fighting Stalin, this is what it's all about!

Thank you! Someone cares!:)

High tech Civ4 players do have some good in them.:)

I loved that old game. I edited the hell out of the .txt file in order to stop things like tanks (they had a 10 attack and 5 defense, remember?) being killed by knights (they had a 6 I believe?) and you could also make the leaders say funny things. Aaaaah those were the days.

Yeah the blurb.txt

I still play it occasionally, the old DOS version with floppies. I'm thinking about getting a cd backup with CIV.net or something. The floppies won't last forever.

I must give credit where it is due. Civ I and IV are the only two civs I truely love. And I know when I finally have to take a break from IV, it won't be long till I fire up Civ I again.

Do you mean Pong or Oregon Trail? :mischief:

Ahh...those memories. Remember when I had to play just "one more turn" before the schoolbus came :)
Damn, that was pure addiction.

Civ 1 was the first real strategy game I played. I'll still bust out CivWin and have a go every now and then.

I paid my respects by picking up a copy of the CIV I several weeks ago. I find it tough for me to play really old games in most cases. This is one of the few exceptions. Fun game.

Why should I have to pay it my respects?
It got me addicted, for heaven's sake. Now I can't stop playing those freakin' Civilization games! :wallbash:

God I miss this game! Is there anywhere to get a version that will run on a current PC? (please exscuse my ignorance in this matter):)
if you own a CivDOS ('civilization for windows / DOS' (~1991-1992)) version
you may read this

civWin
or
civNET should 'run' with modern windows OS's anyway.
