Hi guys,
I am the happy new owner of Civ5. Loving it so far but having issues late game.

On Large map size the game starts to take ages between turns one I get into the future techs, have loads of cities. Its making the game not fun :(

I've checked my task manager and CPU usage is at 30% at max and physical memory is at 60% at max.

My setup:

Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz @ 3.60GHz / Asus P7P55D Intel P55 Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle, GTX 260

I have just gone and bought another 4 Gb of this same RAM while I was raging at the slowness a few minutes ago.

I am wondering, do you think this issue is the RAM? What else could it be? Every other game runs maxed almost without issues and Civ 5 works fine until very late game on just Large map :(

The AI just takes a lot longer now. I noticed the slowness on my first turns. The more units ect the longer it will take. Try defragging your hdd, beyond that nothing will really help until they optimize it more. Btw I have an i7 860 @3.8 and 4 gbs and win7, so it's not just you ;).

Oh, the HDD?

Hmm I am defragging now but I installed it on my games drive.

I also have a Western Digital Raptor X 10K RPM drive... Maybe I should move the installation there... But its in Steam grr... Will have to look at this tomorrow.

Just gave up waiting between turns. Stupid.

Didn't the turns take a long time during that 2 hour preview video? And that was on a 'beastly computer', so its probably nothing to do with your computer.

it's really not so bad but it can get a bit annoying over time. I've never had a turn take longer than 15-20 seconds. Just going to have to wait for patches to optimize it I'm afraid

Never had any trouble but I play on standard size. So while it suck that you can't have a fun end game with huge map. Maybe you should play on smaller map and be able to finish the game.

this is terribly annoying. ONe of my favorite things to do on civ4 was a marathon game on a huge map. This is impossible on civ5. I am currently playing a marathon on a standard map and about 1450ad it became unbareable. about 15-30 seconds between turns.

Completely let down by this.

Sid - you have screwed up, if you can't make it work correctly dont charge me full price. YOu should of sold this piece of trash for a prorated amount equal to my prorated fun. THis game had a ton of opportunity, really enjoyed it to start with but performance killed it.

Newer games demand more resources? I'm on a large map around the same time and getting maybe 5 - 10 seconds between turns and this rig ain't cutting edge.
