WANT TO PLAY A GAME?
Frederick sets his sights throwing the long bomb. If we're going to build the big one in anything approximating a reasonable time frame (ie. not get nuked back in retaliation), we're going to need science (and allot of it)! Forward settling Harold @ Yosemite proves the right choice for the early game, and France's 3 campus districts take the edge off the late phases of the early game as it transitions to the mid.
Note: Thumbnail image from movie Wargames, circa 1983. Yeah, I'm that old.
HAVE IT YOUR WAY: HOLD THE PICKLE, HOLD THE LETTUCE, YOUR SPECIAL CAMPUS DISTRICTS SURE DO UPSET US
***Frederick continues his battle against the dreaded AI Burger King and his WOPR warmachine hell bent on returning the German Merchant Republic to a Monarchy!!! He also begins planning a little payback for Korea's surprise war circa 250BC,***
Note: If you are under 50 years of age (or not a US citizen), and don't remember the unrelenting Burger King "have it your way" commercial spam from the early and mid 70's, just ignore everything above this line
.
-As the Koreans were banking around 75% more science than we were, and this went on for some time, I figured it would probably be bad idea to go at them just now. I suspect we wouldn't be able to make much headway withoug cavalry corps (and perhaps not even with them). The possibility of finding ourselves in a pickle between an entrenched, technologically advanced Korea, an aggressive Japan and an opportunistic Tamar, led me to war elsewhere (Georgia), add a few cities with choppable resources, and wait to see what develops. As it turns out Georgia had some nice real estate, and I ended up in a half decent position to liberate Muscat from Gorgo. I'm hoping I can recover the envoys I lost when Greece conquered it almost immediately after I dropped 4 envoys to suz it. This will, of course, require the army to swing through Chandragupta's area; And, as he has red faced us diplomatically, an open borders agreement is, quite simply, not possible. As the AI is fond of saying, "I may have to use other means." As I've spammed industrial zones and attendant commercial hubs the suzerian bonus should come in especially handy as well as provide gold needed to buy a zoo/stadium before using great engineers to rush build the Estádio do Maracanã (which should provide ever more culture for the International Space Agency as well as take the edge off the war weariness of the nuclear war we have planned).
-I think the only way to defeat them conventionally will be with armies (ie. culture), so I've been building theatre squares as a hedge should they require an intervention before we can drop the ~**BIG ONE**~ on them.
Note: The WOPR thumbnail is the crazed supercomputer from the 1983 movie Wargames.
BOOM GOES THE ESTADIO DO MARCANA
-I feel a cultural explosion coming on...Professional Sports in 3 turns, 2 of the 3 great wonder builders in que, the 3rd on the way. That should speed us to International Space Agency which, with the city states we've been liberating, should blow us right by the BIG ONE and on to the REALLY REALLY BIG ONE!!!
GLOBAL THERMONUCLEAR WAR!!!
-Victory is ours!
-We have retired our battering rams in favor of a new method.
*The nukes start to fly about 2 hours 54 minutes in...

**I find this variable speed playback app quite useful (speeds up to x16). You have to use the Chrome browser.
