Civ for Linux?

There isn't a Linux Civ3 version and no plans to build one (any time soon?).
However, you may be interested in Padma's workaround to run Civ3 on Linux:

For the record, I once came across an online store ad for Linux SMAC:)
-much better than civ1 or civ2 IMnsvHO :D

Trouble is to get used to Linux with a working Civ3 or SMAC on it...;)

Freeciv is the best Linux Civ i have seen. If you have a recent Redhat distro it is included. I believe SMAC has been ported to Linux, by a company I think is called Loki Software, but they may have gone out of business.... I think i saw somewhere someone was trying to get the code for Civ 2 open source, leading to a LInux port, which would be great.

Anyway, good luck with Linux!!

FreeCiv is an excellent Civ2 look-alike that is designed for Linux systems. The latest versions, forums, etc. can be found here.

SMAC *was* ported to Linux, but Loki went out of business. Still, you might find a copy on e-bay, or something ....

For CIv3, Transgaming supports Civ3/PTW/Conquests, with a 4 out of 5 rating from users. See my thread linked in Grille's post. :)

There was also a Civ: Call to Power for Linux. company went bankrupt though, no idea where you can get a copy. Plus it's getting a bit old, last time I tried the kernel's sound drivers were too new for the game so sound didn't work! lol

No, it was made by Activision, and as far as I can tell, their still here and kicking :). It just no long devlops game, only publishing them. Maybe your thinking of the porter.

You find better luck with Call to Power 2. Its windows only, but the source code was released by Activision, and some intriped fans have trying to port it to Linux. You going have to go to the Aployton forum for more on that.

I actually had for a short time sometimes a Linux with SMAC in it, but was for so short time I didn't get to really try it. :undecide:

The Loki stuff is still sold by retailers worldwide. Their webside is available and trying to buy it there will give you a link list of the retailers, sorted by countries . Tried a German one, and they have the US Planetary Pack (that's including SMAX add-on AFAIK) in stock. Recommended retail price stated is ~30 USD, they sell it for ~40 Euros, though.
Also, some gaming sites have a ~25MB d/l Linux SMAC demo version.
