I've been on the lookout for a mobile release of Civilization ever since I got my first java based Sony Ericsson with colour screen.
Back then there I found a game, released by a South Korean games company, Com2us, called Sid Meier's Civilization 3. I played it a lot and had many hours of fun.
It is doubtful weather this game was developed under licence from MicroSpore, maybe someone has more information, but despite its name it was a pretty good clone which looked like a reduced version of the original Civilization, and not civ 3. Graphics were in 2D and units had a characteristic coloured piece appearance. The game had plenty of playing scope considering it's size, and it was as addictive as the dos game. The developers made a 32 page pdf help guide available on their site, so basically it was a fully fledged turn based strategy game, extremely close to Sid Meier's original.
The game had only one release and never went further onto iOS or Android. MicroSpore or any other Sid Meier version never came out.
I am running the old Com2us Civilization 3 on my Android handset via netmite java runner, a little app that converts jar files to apk so you can run it on android. On my phone it is sometimes a bit jerky and sometimes crashes, but the autosave function works fine and my game is easily restored.
So just for posterity's sake and for the amusement of civ fanatics who haven't seen this (unofficial) mobile version before I am mentioning it here in the civ1 forum, with a few screen shots.
