Hi there,

I asked the same question quite som time ago and I still haven't heard any news myself, but has anyone heard anything about porting Civ I to a PDA platform?

I don't have a PDA *yet* so I'm not bothered which OS or H/W we're talking here.

JoeM, I browse the download files for PalmOS/PocketPC games pretty often and haven't seen anything. They are just getting around to things like Monopoly.

I just don't think they could port it down that low on the OS/Processer food chain and I'm not sure most PDA users would have enough memory anyway. Some of the newer high-end PocketPCs might be able to handle it. And it would be a port too, at least for Palm OS (I don't know how similiar Pocket PC OS is to DOS/Win), and I doubt there would be enough demand for such an undertaking.

What about TI programmable calculators? I would assume it would be too much for for my calc to handle (although I don't know about the ti-89 or 92..) and I'm sure that any civ clone for a calculator would be kind of crappy.. but still something that would be neat to try if it exists..

You're kidding me, right? Civ on a TI? Maybe they could get it to play on a digital watch or a cell phone too...

If they can't port it to a PDA, it won't be coming to a TI.

Well, I have seen versions of Sim City for TI calcs.. I don't know how good they are though, I don't have one of those connection cable things and nobody uses readable text files anymore like they did back with the old ti-81 so I'm kind of screwed =P

Well, I stand, well sit, corrected. Looks like the front news page shows a company got a version of Civ on a cell phone/communicator.

Wow, the screenshots look awesome! Looks like they really paid attention to detail - and to keeping it true to civ1. The graphics are almost identical, except at a higher resolution. And they seem to have done a great job squeezing everything into the smaller screen real estate. Very nice!

Does anyone have one of these phones and can actually try it?

I have recently discovered that I can now make games for the Pocket PC. (Pocket PC runtimes for Jamagic, a programming tools I use, have been released in their beta stage.)

However.. artificial intelligence is a weakness of mine.. =[

The rest I could probably do.. but the AI would be lousy.

There is CIV 1 for the Nokia Communicator 9210 or 9290( in the states) .. you can download a demo of it at http://www.redshift.hu/
its awesome just like when I played it 10 years ago..
only if you want to play past 1 ad and save games you have to buy it for 27 dollars. I still couldnt put myself up to pay that much to play civ 1 on my mobile/PDA phone..

I am very tempted to go and spend a months salary to buy a 9210 just so I can play CIV anywhere (I do have a laptop but its a bit bulky and the batterys stuffed - cant use it standing up on the train home thats for sure...)
Been playing civ since jan '94 and the amount of enjoyment Ive got out of it has been many thousands of times worth what I paid for it back then... :-)
I reckon a mobile version of civ would be well worth the cost of a pda or 9210 (nevermind the nominal 27 bucks on top of that!) - now If I can just stop spending long enough to get that kind of cash together...
