In Civ III, it will be very hard for most of us, to make a scenario with graphics worthy of Civ III. We can ofcourse take units from other games better, but most of us aren't able to create units of that high quality themselves. So for me this means, I'll probably become more of an idea-maker that gives his ideas to or cooperates with people that can and want to make a scenario.

To the contrary, Willem, it will be easier to make scenarios with Civ3! -With all those 'solid editors' promised, and new built-in features to take advantage of, it will hold whole new possibilities for scenarios. And if they ship Civ3 with scenarios, I bet there will be at least a few alternative graphics there as well.

It might take a while before people will make their own animated units, but I bet it will be done, by some of those skillful arts people out there. And we're here to benefit!
-And in the meantime, whats wrong with the old standard flat Civ2 units?

Well, there will not be a unit builder....But it will be easier to copy high-quality units from other games.

One should keep in mind that contrary to civ 2, civ 3 will be built for scenario building (granted not exclusively but it will be built whit it in mind) the scenario editors of Civ 2 was something that gradually evolved as the comunity changed more and more stuff in the files, having several support folders for every scenario, etc.
This made them create scenarios whit thier own catalogues, and then they expanded on that more and more.
Civ 3 will be built whit a lot of editors, and although many seems to think that no scenarios will be able to be built becouse of the animated graphics required, you forget that you are allowed to use static units as well, although not as visualy pleasing I am sure many will do that untill there is a large unit database (as we have for civ 2) to pick from.

Edit:
Just realized that this was only about units so the first parts about the editors is rather unnecesary

True, but it's still difficult to make such beatiful units yourself. Though it is much easier to convert them from other games or from photo's..........we might even change this to a posotive thing.

Well, when Civ 2 came out there were no nice units to put into scenarios, and now there's a good unit for just about everything. Give it time and people will create stuff for Civ 3.

Yes, thats what I would hope too. I personaly have never make a own civ2 scenario, but have made some gfx for other scneario authors. May be with Civ3 this will be the same, may be with Civ3 I finish making my first scenario...

It's the waiting for those units that makes it......I don't know. I started dealing with Civilization II seriously after discovering this site, and that was in January 2001. 5 years of Civ II provided a lot of units ofcourse. But now I'll be there at the start of Civ II, meaning no great units from day #1.

Welcome to CFC Arne. You're not giving up the German site, ar you?

I already noticed, but didn't feel like editing my post. But he's only posted 4......and I know him of other forums where I registered a few days ago.

Well, I´m optimistic. As Case said, if Civ3 is great, a lot of people will start to work for it. I plan to do it as well

Normal units should be no problem, it becomes more difficult if one needs animated units at all costs. Constructing and rendering 3D animated units costs a lot of work and time, however, at least I will try it.

Unfortunately I think ancient and medieval (my favourite scn periods) units are a lot harder to animate than for example WWII planes or tanks, but let´s wait what Firaxis has done to make the scn designer´s life a bit easier...
