Civ IV DVD ROM required?

I read on apypton that a DVD-ROM is a minimum requirement. I might not be able to play it. I only got CDRW. This kind of stuff should have been stated before being made available for sale or preorder.
this is kind of a let down.

I don't believe they would have it DVD only release, I don't think we're there yet.

US is CD, it was on one of the box arts. No games coming out now are DVD only, in US at least. ANd this isn't partiularly one of the bigger ones.

The sales guy at Take Two returned my call and told me that the US release was on CDs. He said they will put specs on official website soon.

Well the info did come from a German Civ site (Civilized.de), hence the European requirements.

I mentioned that they might want to post US vs European version specs on official website. He said they would do so. however, it may not show up until tomorrow as it's passed closing time in NY. I imagine tomorrow they will add this important info on official sites as well as here and Apyloton. I mentioned those websites to him. He was familiar with them. So, by tomorrow the smoke may clear.

If you can afford $50 for the game, you can afford $20 for a DVD drive.

For $40 - $50 you can get a DVD-R drive to write DVD's. Unless you are cheap get standard DVD-ROM drive.

after spending $50 for the game, then more money plus hours intalling a cdrw/dvd combo that's more than I bargained for. If it's dvd only, they should state so before people order. $50 is my budget for the pc for the quarter not just the month. not all of us are made of money.

oh the game is written on a dvd.....i guess that sucks for some people who dont have a dvd-rom.....but at least there wont be two cds....8)

in US they are on cds in Europe thery are on dvds ..that is confirmed but i think if u preordered then u still get cds...i cant preorder and only information on realese dates in Estonia is 24th nov..i get the game a month later..TOTAL BS

You could buy an inexpensive dvd player... they only cost 20 bucks or so. Newegg sells dvd dual-layer burners for 40 bucks... best of luck

the Take Two sales guy told me the US version was on CDs. DVD only is a significant point and should have been mentioned before people ordered. I'll call them back tomorrow and get a clarification. If it is dvd only pre orders can still be canceled until they ship at amazon.com

not all of us have budget to buy the game and a new drive. we can install the game, but installing a bunch of new hardware and then the game...

they should have stated dvd only in the first place. A lot of us in the USA don't have a dvd in their pc.

Only an idiotic publisher/company would make a game olny available on DVD ATM.

the guy from take two games said the US version was on CDs. the specs on apolyton were from europe. now maybe the european version is dvd only. I will call take tomorrow morning to confirm.
