Ok so I had CIV IV installed on my old PC for ages, no problems, until about six months ago when I started getting random graphics crashes during the game. The screen goes fuzzy and pink, and usually the PC freezes altogether, although a couple of times it recovered and I got an error message about the graphics driver having recovered from a failure. These crashes were random in that they didn't happen at the same point in the game - I could reload and play on through the point where it crashed - and some days it would happen a few times, other days not at all.
I can't pin anything to when it started except it's possible I installed a patch around that time. But I have no mods or other changes to the game as it comes off the CD.
I've tried so many things to get rid of this fault:
- installing the latest patch
- uninstalling and reinstalling the game
- buying the game again and installing from the new CD
- checking and updating drivers for the graphics card
- buying a completely new PC (which I was going to do anyway) with a different OS and installing the game on that
- changing the graphics card on my new PC
Yet still I am stuck with the fault. Help!
