Civ IV, Mods, Windows 8, & Python

So, I've recently had to start playing Civ IV on a Windows 8 computer.

On my previous computer, Windows 7, the few mods I used ran with no problem. However, when trying to play the mods on Windows 8 it seems that several of the python files are not being loaded (this is not specific to just one mod, which is why I'm posting it here instead of in their threads). Without the python, of course, several features of the mods no longer work.

Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening / have encountered something similar / know a way to fix this? I seem to recall something a long time ago about having to set a file path? Could this be the issue / anyone know where this was done?

Also, for those who upgraded to Windows 10, if they've ever encountered something similar?

Thanks!

If Python was handled differently by Windows8, everybody would have noticed it as BtS itself is full of Python. I'm playing on Windows8 my own mod with my own Python without any problem.

If you have several mods that are problematic, it might be that they all have the BUG component in common. You might want to re-direct your question to the BUG thread. :dunno:

I know Windows 8 doesn't have an inherent problem with python as all the base game python still works. I was only talking in regard to mods, and I'm convinced it has to be something specific to Windows 8 because these are mods that were working yesterday on a Windows 7 computer and now (though unchanged) aren't working on a Windows 8 computer.

It seems to be mostly with full conversion mods placed in the ~/Civ IV BTS/BTS/Mods folder (not the ones in the /~Documents/My Games/BTS/Mods folder). None of them use BUG or BAT. I know it's something related to python because though the mods themselves load fine, stuff like new interface files and new unit ability files aren't firing.

It's why I was wondering if there was a common place in mods where a file path for new python files was specified? Maybe Windows 8 has a slightly different file path and this would need to be adjusted.

Is what you are experiencing similar to this post? (alt-tabbing to Windows and coming back to the game brings back the interface?)

Do you play with Python pop-ups enabled? (see a few posts below how to activate them in case).

As far as I know, only BUG uses paths for Python purposes, that's why I was wondering if this could be the case here.

Did you install civ4 to default path? I think I have read multiple time on this forum that this might cause problems with mods in recent windows versions...
