Civ V Vanilla - Equestria Mod help

I'm trying to play the game with the Equestria mod (v. 6 if that helps anyone). I downloaded the raw data because the Steam Workshop has a tendency to crash on my computer.

Here's the problem.

I have installed the mod. I have the green check mark thingy showing it is active. It appears to be installed correctly. However, when I try to Set Up Game (within either menu), Equestria does not appear.

The game is V. 1.0.0.17. I do not have Gods and Kings, so I cannot use that version of the mod. I have tried multiple times to update the game through Steam, but every time I do, Steam crashes. It is something to do with my personal computer, for I have tried reinstalling the Steam program several times.

Any ideas on what is wrong?

Steam should update the game automatically, you don't have to do anything to do it. If it doesn't update the game, then it's a problem with Steam, and I can't help you here.

Trying to run any mods with an outdated version of the game is not a good idea, it will usually cause crashes or other problems.
