My laptop (intel) had some hardware failure and I'm considering if I should have it repaired or purchase something new. I'm hoping the repair bill makes sense because the machine plays civ2 well and I feel like every time I get a new computer there is a question if it will work properly or not.

I'm trying to keep costs down and see that AMD is a less expensive option. I'm curious if any of you have one of these processors and found that Test of Time works on it. Is this even something that should concern me?

I'm just wondering if anyone is aware of hidden gremlins that I might stumble upon...

I can't imaging that you would have any trouble, though I'm still using a 3rd gen Intel processor and on Linux, so I can't absolutely say. AMD and Intel use the same CPU instruction set (unlike ARM), so it shouldn't be any different running Civ II on Windows 10 with Intel or Windows 10 with AMD. I think AMD was created specifically since computer manufacturers wanted there to be more than one company with the license to provide the x86 instruction set, so they should be compatible. Maybe graphics drivers are different, but I doubt that is relevant (unless you plan to use Linux and Wine).

I doubt performance is going to be an issue for Civ II, as long as the game actually runs. If you're looking to run an XP virtual machine for civ II instead, then you'll want to make sure that the processor supports that kind of virtualization (I think all I3, I5, I7, do but not "budget" Intel, not sure about AMD, and you'd probably want to check in a tech forum to make sure).
