Civ4 does not load all can see is desktop and hear game sound

Hi

Having trouble loading Civ4. Have installed the patch and eveything but everytime i load the game i still get the wonderful desktop and hear what i think is the intro music. Can anyone help??
Have logged it which appears here please help!!

What exactly do you get? Wonderful desktop? Can you post a screenshot?

Do you see the intro movie? If not, maybe they're causing trouble, try turning them off in the ini file: NoIntroMovie = 1.
Do you see the spinning globe and menu underneath?
Try running the game in windowed mode: Fullscreen = 0.

Try running a game directly bypassing the menu. E.g., go to the Civ4 install folder, PublicMaps, and launch the game by running a Civ4WorldBuilderSave file.
