Hello,
Here are my system specs:
Intel P4 1.6Ghz
512MB SDRAM
Nvidia Geforce4 64MB DDR Graphics with latest drivers
2gigs of virtual memory
Plenty of HD space.
Game version: 1.61
Windows XP pro SP2 (fully upgraded to this moment)

Problem:
The game starts well, intro loads smoothly, menu is smooth, but when I start the game, and it finishes loading it says "finished" and the voice in the background is talking about evolution...nothing happens. I tried multiple times, single player, custom game, I tried pushing space, ESC, clicking, right-clicking, it just gives me the loading spinning cursor and nothing happens..the loading screen just remains the same and says "finished".
I tried doing CTRL+ALT+Delete, and ALT-F4 and nothing happens, same spinning cursor and mouse still alive (eventually the cursor stops spinning it's like a frozen graphic of the spinning cursor), so i can't even close the game. Finally out of desparation I have to restart.

Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot in advance guys!

Firstly I would double your system RAM to 1Gb. Then perhaps think about upgrading the video card. However from the problem you describe I would say it's a memory problem so try upgrading the RAM first and see if it improves at all.

Yes, but I am well above system requirements, and right at the recommended requirements. Why do I have to upgrade stuff?

Upgrading your video card and ram may not be the awnser.I have a GeForce 6600 and 1 gig of ram yet had exactly the same problem.Try ticking 'application controlled on your video card.On my system, this fixed the problem.

Hi
My system specs are:
Intel P4 2.6Ghz
512MB DDRAM
Nvidia Geforce4 64MB DDR

So we are almost using the same specs , i used to run the game flawlessly even with huge maps except for some lag at late game but without a single freeze!
2 weeks ago i got exactly the same problem!!
I havent added any hardware or software recently and all my drivers are updated...i think it ain't a graphics card ...it's more like a memory leak issue..
Havent found the answer yet though!!
How can i set the Video card to application controlled?!

No,wer'e not using the same specs, but in my case it was most definately the video card that caused the problem and ticking application controlled as far as the antialiasing was concerned fixed it 100%.If you want to try it,r/click desktop, left click properties/settings/advanced/GEForce 6600GT/Performance and Quality settings/Antialiasing/now tick application controlled whenever you want to play CIV 4.
It's a real pain but I have to have the antialiasing on to get the best graphics on Flightsim so I just have to change it all the time.
Hope this works for you too.
specs Pent 4 3gig 1 gig ram GEForce 6600GT 128MB.

Thanks for the reply Deepace
I tried setting "application controlled" but it didnt work either
But i managed to find a trick....i start a game with a map size small or tiny ; everything goes fine then i quit to the main menu and load my game whaetever the map size is and it runs fine and fast!!!
freaky!!
I'll try to buy a new Video card later...hope that would solve the problem...

OK, so I'm a necromancer....but why start a new thread when this one can be used?

There are two of us currently experiencing the same problem with the Babylon 5 Mod. We can both load and play other mods for BtS and play them with no problem. However, there is a problem within the B5 Mod that is causing the game not to finish startup.

We have rolled the game back to the last version we had that was a working version and it still won't complete startup.

Investigation has found the freezing happens sometime after onGameStart and before beginGameTurn

so:

1) what actually happens between those two events? I know by that time the map is ready and the units all initialized etc
2) what can cause the hanging... is it an infinite loop or can there be another cause?

We have posted the same question on the Creation & Customization page but had no responses. Hoping we may be luckier here.
