Civ4 VS. SMAC

is SMAC really as good/better than civ? is it still out and how much would it cost nowadays?

Really? I thought SMAC was very immersive. The background story that was released leading up to the release, the concepts of each faction and their ethics and goals, the mysteries of the planet - good stuff.
