I tried doing a search to find if this topic had been discussed already or not, but I wasn't able to find anything useful--most of the info concerned playing CivII with Virtual PC.

Anyway, I have virtual PC 6.0, and I want to play Conquests on my mac. I loaded the CivIII and C3C, but the game will not load. Nothing happens when I try to run the game. Does anyone have any info or suggestions for me?

I believe the sticking point is video. VirtualPC cannot do any 3D rendering, only 2D (becuase it emulates a cheap 2D video card to process Windows video.) As such, any game or program that requires 3D acceleration simply won't work under VPC. Despite Civ3's overall visual presentation being 2D, I do think they call on 3D for thinks like the animated leaders' heads and such. Thus you are stuck playing C3C on a PC.

That being said, there was one far-fetched scenario that I once came up with that *may* make it possible to play the game in VPC on a Mac, but needless to say the stars would have to align just so and you'd need to find an extremely rare VooDoo2 card...

I will describe the whole process though if anyone is interested and has way more time, energy, and money on their hands than I...

BTW, I noticed by your website that you are a Toledo grad.

Thus, being a BGSU grad, I find myself feeling dirty for having spoken to the likes of you! ;)

Not as dirty as I feel for having to go to you for help! Uuh! ;) Actually, I still am a proud Rocket . . . master's. I'm also planning on being a Rocket for a few more years working for my doctorate.

They do use the software OpenGL renderer for some anti-aliased lines in places, but that shouldn't stop you from using VPC. More likely, the SafeDisc protection is incompatible with VPC.
