Hello, there seems to be a bug in my game of civ 2. Everything is fine until I save my game and quit. When I load my game sometime later, all appears well but on the next turn the game suddenly 'jumps back' a few turns, so (for example) if I am on the year 1500 it goes back to about 1000 AD. I can still play the game, but the year is a number of turns earlier than it should be. For me this ruins the fun of the game. Has anyone come across this problem before?. Is there a way I can fix this?.

Very strange - have not seen that. Is it just the year number, are all the units and cities the same as the previous turn, or is a prior version of the game restored (cities smaller, units in different places)? Two possibilities are a corrupted SAV file or a corruption in one of the game program files. Try opening other SAV files from other games you have played (you save files from every game you play, right? am I the only maniac in that regard?) and play a few turns to see if the problem carries over to other games (use ones with a different starting setup). If it does not carry it is probably just corrupted SAV file. If it does carry over, try reinstalling the game. You might consider running ScanDisk and Defrag as well.

Do you have Civ2 classic? If so, installing the 2.42 patch would seem like a good idea... See the civ2 downloads on CivFanatics.

Files getting corrupted really does not happen very often. There usually are other explanations. Going down that road should really only be considered a last effort rather than your primary concern. So just hold off the reinstalling/defragging/virusscanning/etc. for a bit.
