Hello :) I found your website through the Civilization 4 website...they didn't seem to have any solutions, so I came here.

Ever since I upgraded to the newest patch (1.6 something, I think) I keep getting random crashes. Sometimes I'll be able to play for a couple hours, sometimes it'll crash every couple minutes...It gets worse as the game goes on.

I don't know what could be wrong :( Can anyone help?

what are your system specs? graphics card, CPU, RAM? do you get more crashes on bigger maps / later eras?

Hi :) Actually, its fine now. I turned down the graphics settings to "low", and I haven't had a crash since...I completed a marathon game and a quick game without any problems. It doesn't look that different to me, so I'm going to keep it that way.

Thanks anyway though :)

i've had this happen a couple a time now .. as has my friend.... seems to be after the game's gone on for a while ..we play huge maps 15 civs.

My Specs:

P4 3.0g
2gig DDR2
256 X800XL Radeon
Raided SATA's
Ultra Cool and Over Powered lol

I've noticed it since 1.61 but, I have everything jacked at 1280x1024 so that might not help.

The game tells me I've lost after 10 or so turns. I can keep playing, but it's stupid. 10 turns later, or more, about when I build my second city, the game closes

Don't talk about 10 turns on Civ4. That usually means that you are using a No-CD crack. That is not tolerated here. If that is the case, try using the CD & not the crack.

I also have this problem where the game randomly crashes. It will never crash the first 25 turns, but after that its a crapshoot as to when it seems to crash. I can go a whole half game without it crashing, but no more than that. Like the original poster stated, sometimes it can be multiple times in a few minutes. It's really random. If I had to guess what it was, it would be some odd incompatibility between the script being run, virtual cache, memory leaks, my hardware, and just the sheer amount of stuff being calculated.

I'm running:
P4 2.66 Ghz
1 GB RAM
Nvidia 6600GT
(and no overclocking.)

Can anyone help?

Add overheating to the list of possible causes. Assuming your game is patched, try
- playing with the case open
- closing all other unnecessary apps before launching civ
- reducing gfx settings
- playing smaller maps
