My main beef with CivWorld is that it's just too time-consuming. If you want to do well, you need to constantly check in to do things: take advantage of market prices, play the accursed mini-games before you lose all your moves/swaps or gold hits 1000, micromanage the battles, coordinate with teammates, and so on. Maybe each task doesn't take long, but it hurts if you wait 24 hours before playing again. I want to be able to login once a day at most, and not have that greatly affect my performance. I don't know if anyone here played Earth 2025 (like a decade ago), but in that game once a day was enough.
The other big problem is that you're forced to play mini-games, which are very different from the main focus of the game. I want to play Civ - a strategy game - not unrelated mini-games! Sure, you can choose not to, but then you're not maximizing your potential.
Other smaller problems, but still pretty bad:
CPU usage.
The generally confusing design. It's not clear what the goal is, not to mention winning as an individual often conflicts with helping the team - it's always better to convince someone else to finish that wonder. When would I ever want to build a ginormous market except to get the medal? What happens if too much science is used to complete a tech? Hint: it gets lost! I actually enjoy that maximizing city production is hard, but maybe it can be made clearer what affects production - considering the majority of cities I visit are pretty crappy.
The battle system is nuts - noobs really ruin the day by using small stacks. They should just automatically take the largest armies from what all your country's players offer. And I really hate how not only you have to micromanage battles, but only the defense minister can do it effectively. And I never want to be defense minister because battles can take forever! But you can't resign!
Honestly, the game is kind of addictive, but the first two problems kill it for me. I wanted to like it, but I'm quitting here.
