Do you think the developers should implement a colony system to enhance and improve upon the tenets of mercantilism?

yeah, i really miss the colonies of Civ3... it just gets annoying to have to make a city so far away and pay it's maintenance costs for just one resource... not annoying enough to ruin the game but it would definitely make it better...

You could make your colonies pay taxes and other things but if unhappiness grows the'll revolt and if it is sucssesful it will become a new civ picked at random.

that sounds like a good idea, always wanted something like that, but the new civ would be crushed by another really quickly...

I really like it, if you could also set up colonies in foriegn nations, like the british colonies all over the world, and a colonie could grow like a cottage. Given enough time it would become a city. Colonies might thrive in "uncivilized" regions like America (by that I mean that there was a general lack of large civilizations, especially after the few were destroyed by the spanish) and Australia, but colonies in foriegn nations would be more prone to revolted and returning to the native civ. There could be a new diplomatic agreement, like "colonized", in which a civ would give in to because of war or extreme force. And depending on the size of a colony and it would gain military units during its revolution. Anyone got any ideas on how to do this?

Cool Idea.

yeah, that does sound like a pretty good idea... especially on the terra maps where everyone starts off in the old world... but i still don't think that the colony would be strong enough to stand on its on... maybe if when it came into being a new civ it started in a golden age or something along with gaining untis, like you said...

another idea would be to have the colony be a city that you got the benefits, or some of the benefits, of without being in control of it's production and city maintenance as well as not having to pay it's maintenance costs... kind of like a "friendly" barbarian city, i guess...
