As the title of this lovely thread states.....would anyone be interested in a Colonization GOTM? I think even if it is only a few people that it would be extremely fun!
It's a worthwhile idea. Trying to find enough people able to play these days would be rather problemetical, seeing how inactive this forum is. I think OCC type games would be more suitable because of its shorter duration.
I would like to try that, on the highest setting perhaps?
Have not played Colonization for about a year now, but that would give me a new reason to play, as the game has become frustratingly easy for me
OCC challenge games on higher levels take out the fun in games. Unless everything goes your way, you're looking at an 80% chance that you won't win the revoultion. That gets disheartening.
I think skill level and experience with appropriate strategy have a lot to do with success. Until the specific strategy was worked out for Civ2 for example, people thought OCC was impossible there as well.
I think it is possible to take one's time to prepare the groundwork before declaring Independence.
You know, a GOTM would be fun! I just recently blew the dust off this CD after playing a lot of civ2&3. Colonization is a 'beer & pretzels' kind of game that plays quickly. More suitable for a busy schedule.
I would be keen to play GOTM. Would it be a random map? What would be the best difficulty level to use? I usually play Viceroy but Governor might be better for those who don't play regularly. I don't see the need to make it OCC as well but you could have a limit on the number of colonies, 8 or 10 perhaps. Could also have a time limit (eg must declare independance by a certain year).
