One thing I really want to see from Panzer General and I did miss a lot in former versions of the Civ series is to give units:

a) Hard attack against armoured targets (tanks, mechanized units , but may be also cathapracts and knights)

and

b) Soft attack against normal infantry, trucks and so on.

I'm not quite sure I understand the difference.

But on the topic of combat, all units should be able to retreat on your commands and mounted/motorized ones should do it better. For the most part wise military commanders throughout history have taken the adage "he who runs away lives to fight another day" seriously (the 300 Spartans and other Greeks at Thermopylae were an exception :p).

Considering Firaxis is switching around combat mechanics, I think this is a must.

I'm expecting at the very least multiple rounds of combat - i.e. your unit not destroyed in one turn - giving you a chance to retreat if you've been pummeled and don't expect to survive another attack.

Especially if only one unit can be placed on a tile, there's no opportunity to protect more vulnerable units (other than put them behind others if they're ranged), and armies are generally going to be smaller.

I'm not quite sure I understand the difference.

A unit has different attack and or defence values against normal infantry and armoured units. Per example:

A spearman against "soft" units has 1A, 2D. Against armoured units the spearman has 0A,0D.

This situation couldn´t occur any longer: :spear:
