Combat Reinvented. Please Read This, Civ4 Production Team

Even if this is just a series of 1-on-1's, with the computer choosing the opponent for each battle, that will be a HUGE improvement on the current system where you have to send EACH unit at a stack one after the next.

I don't think that terminology would be used to refer to a combat system which sounds so close to the old. I think it has to be some sort of simultaneous combat, otherwise it wouldn't be stack vs stack.

You should learn how to organize things into a concise, condensed format. People will pay more attention that way. (See, e.g. "A Big Vision for Civ 4" or whatever)

I'm confused Searcheagle  does that mean you think the combat system will be completely simultaneous? Sorry for being so obtuse, but clarification would be helpful :)!

what i was saying in the original post was that i think units in a stack should be able to attack simultaneously if they all have movement points. this would do away with one strong defender completely shutting down an attack. in simultaneous attacks, multiple defenders would counter multiple attackers and if there were more attackers than defenders then one or more defenders would be ganged up on it. essentially the attackers would have combined attack strength when this happens. and damage dealt back to these attackers would be random or chosen by the player in his "military strategy" (see previous page post)

Well, on that note Industrialgod, you will get no argument from me!!! I always thought it strange that combat seemed to occur in a similar fashion to a bad 1970's martial arts film. You know, where a host of badies refuse to take on the main character all at once (thus overwhelming him with superior numbers) but instead take him on one at a time. Numerical advantage SHOULD have some impact on combat-even if its just a reduced combat strength for each additional opponent a unit is facing (so, a unit with strength 6, fighting 4 opponents, might lose around 2 points from its strength when determining success chance).

aussie lurker,
you and me man. you and me we should make a game, we got the brains man. i can see that from your culture and religion posts. too bad i know nothing of programming. perhaps we could hire a trained monkey to do the manual work or some sort of computer programmer, whichever is more efficient.

Meet my price and you can hire me.

Tell me your price, Warpstorm, and I might consider it ;) J/K! Would a cut of future profits be enough?

Those are some pretty cool ideas, though using all of the morale and special healing seems like it could overcomplicate things for the main game. Would be great for a mod though.

I've played Rise of Nations, and it does not have combat like this.

i honestly don't see how morale and such things could be turned into a mod.

Well, they are releasing the code for the game, so it could be a mod, but would take a lot of programming, not a scenario editting thing.

yeah i think i tried to download it once in one of the civfanatics forums, but it didn't download successfully. you know any other place i could get a hold of it? i don't much about programming, but it would be fun to totally f*ck up my game (which will probably happen).
