Whenever, I attack another unit, I get a zoomed in view of the battle which looks really cool. But if another civ attacks me, I dont get a zoomed view, just see the battle on regular map view. Is this a bug or can I change this in the options ( I looked by I havent been able to find it in the options)

Ya, I was wondering about this one, too (actually, my 10 year old watching over my shoulder noticed it before I did; he's obviously into it even more than me!). It does seem inconsistent. A minor thing, though in the grand scheme.

I find it kind of dissappointing too, but there's a good reason for it. When you attack an enemy unit, the camera is already at the appropriate area. If, for example, an enemy attacks you halfway accross the globe, the camera would have to travel all the way over there and then zoom in since there is no direct transition between areas. This would cost time cause lag to no end.

Imho zooming in on the battles where you're being attacked doesn't necessarily cause more lag - the camera could zoom in while it's moving.

If it zooms while moving, it would create even more lag. :crazyeye: 2 simultanious actions will always take up more system resources then 2 seperate actions.

Not if they are compressed into one matrix multiply as a zoom and a translate can be.

Or instead of the scrolling, the view could just jump directly to the area on the map. Isn't that what Civ3 did?

If Im being attacked halfway across the globe, I want to see it anyways :p

If you think not seeing close up of enermy attacking you (land units) wait to you have a major air war. I mean I don't see any of the computer air moves against me, and when I then start my next turn I get writtern messages that I have been attacked. If I have units that are bombed 10 time during the computers turn, I want to see all the attacks, and roughly from where the planes are coming from. It like, you are informed that the enermy has done this, this, and this, verbally!!. Show me all the action, or give me the opption of seeing all the action in preferences.

Have you tried turning on "Show enemy moves" in the options?
