Communism: What's the best game plan?

Despotism -> Republic -> Communism

The only way to run a decent-sized empire in Conquests.

Tips? Be big. Be VERY big. The Hoover Dam and The Internet are even higher priorities than usual. Did I mention be big? Yeah, be big.
 
avoid communism in big empires, the corruption is just rampant even if you build the forbidden palaces and secret police empires and police stations. (big empires=over 100 cities throughout a whole continent.)
 
WHAT are you talking about? Communism is THE big empire government. Corruption in Communism is 20% in all cities, so the more cities the better. (True, going over the OCN hurts you, but going over the OCN hurts any government and Communism has a higher OCN modifier than any other government, plus has the SPHQ available to increase the OCN.)
 
I heard that if you have smaller cities in your big empire far away from your capital, the divided corruption could kill your capital's production.
 
...then just let the cities grow bigger... corruption doesnt take away from food.
+ The production of the capital itself is not all that important... at least not if you somehow balance it against the grand production of your big and growing empire.
 
Hi!

And as soon you have police station,courthouse and 2 to 5 policemen in every of your cities in your communist state, you should be able to get rid of corruption , at least you´re able to get all the production-shields in all your cities. I´ve managed several games in which i had a empire >100-150 cities and i had a corruption below -100 !! Are you sure you have patch 1.22 installed ???

No doubt Communism is THE gov't for people who hate corruption and have something larger than a small empire, i.e. pretty much all of us.

OTOH, you can research faster in Republic, and I usually stay in Republic until after I've built Hoover and have Replaceable Parts. Still no gov't can come close to the production advantage of Communism.

A good trick before you switch: Rush a couple factories (I know, it's expensive) in some of you larger distant cities that have good shield potential. They'll be high shield productive cities after the switch.
 
what if you're in the modern age, have this massive empire of over 100 cities spread on a reasonably large continent and massive corruption in cities far away from the capital and forbidden palace even with courthouses and police stations? do you switch to communism then? because at communism workers work slower than republic don't they?
 
Only thing Republic has and Communism has not is trade bonus, paid labor.

If empire is very, very big, communism low corruption can even offset republic trade bonus.

Communism is the best, in my last game, I was able to get over 20 cities, churning out tanks in 1 or 2 turns, with my other cities, producing artillery in 1-2. I was able to amass an army so quickly. Communism + Mobilization = Dead AI.

Trade bonus is the extra 1 commerce in every square already producing commerce. This occurs in Republic and Democracy.

No. Workers in Despotism, Republic, Monarchy and Communism all work at a 100% rate. Democracy - 150% and Fascism - 200%.

And the good thing about no cash rush is that there is no reason to run a surplus in gold; you can set Science higher and research at the same speed as Republic, then lower science right before a discovery to prevent losing money.
 
Rep/demo is great for cash rushing improvements and these gov'ts are fine up to the OCN for that map. So a huge map OCN is 32. Rep/deom can do fine in the 32-64 range but commy starts to dominate after 32 cities on a huge map.

So the basic strat would be to have size 9~12 cities before commy and disband extra cities once you have hospitals. For commy, you want size 17~20 cities and you don't have to worry about WW or how you conduct your war. Just beat the snot out of your opponent.
 
Citizen001, your knowledge is of Vanilla / PtW.

In C3C, Communism is not only better, almost NO corruption, it also gets a "2nd" Forbidden Palace with the Secret Police HQ.

The more cities you have, the better communism will be.

You will have 80% productive cities on far away continents, even if high above the OCN.

You have only the drawback of forced labor -> but your production is awesome, you can use bombers (my recommendation) as fast units to "fly there, disband there and thus rush the airport there in 1 turn" or something like that.

In previous Civ3 versions, Vanilla and PTW, Communism was not really good, as ALL cities became seriously corrupt after you exceeded the ocn by far.

But with C3C... :) :) :) -> just try it and smile.
