I recently got Civiliation 4 The Complete Edition for my birthday. So, of course, the first thing I did was get right into installing it. I went through everything, but when I got to the point when it asked me if I wanted Express install or custom, the problem occured. I clicked Express install, then next. A DirectX window popped up, saying it was searching for DirectX updates and such, saying it would take a few minutes. A few minutes turned into a half an hour. I have windows 7. And Civ4 already installed. And I have the latest DirectX version.

I don't know if this is just a matter of I have a lack of patience (most likely) or my copy of The Complete edition, or DirectX.

Welcome to CFC :band:

Civ 4 needs directx 9c to run which you will need to install even if you have later versions. You can download it from Microsoft.

As you have Vista, when you run the setup file don't just allow the disc to autorun, right click on the .exe and choose run as administrator. You will probably also find that it does not install any icons on your desktop - you will have to create these yourself.

I'm guessing that the custom install option will allow you to skip the directx installation which you will be able to do if you have download and installed it from Microsfot first.
