conquest win - how?

i want to try for a conquest win, but i'm confused as to what you need to qualify

you have to control a certain percentage of the map...

but, can you raze cities, or do you have to occupy them in order to increase the territory you control?

is it a certain percentage of population, or squares controlled out of all controlled sqares, or a percentage of squares controlled over the entire map?

are there any other criteria?

Are you going for Conquest or Domination?

Conquest = you're the only civ left, all others are destroyed.

Domination = you control 2/3 of the world's land mass within your borders.

You can raze to get Conquest since you're just looking to kill everyone. But you'd need to take them over for Domination in order for them to fall within your borders and add to your 2/3 of the world. Domination doesn't require the elimination of everyone, just the 2/3 requirement.
