Continental Hegemony - Another Mongol Alternative

The Mongols did always have enemies, and had a strong thriving army. This should not be changed. I am not proposing peace, but I am proposing a slightly different idea on how to expand our nation, both internally and externally.

We need to prepare for the time the other continent finds us. What we should not do, would be to make a peace with the Romans, and then go for Berlin, and then anger two remaining civilizations at once. I think we need to eliminate the furious Romans, and to maintain the peace with the pleased Germans. There is no need to jeopardize the Mongol-German relations till the Romans are dead-dead-dead.

I am certain the that by the time the Roman war ends, we would have gotten Rifling, and riflemen, and then we should attack the Germans, as they do not have the Chichen Itza bonus. I am not too concerned about the technology slider in itself, but I would like to build up a financial reserve to handle upgrades. This also means we need to research progressively, as we build up a reserve for gold for upgrades and at the same time build up the necessary infrastructure to get the stated gold.

I am happy that the French are gone, and would soon be happy to see the Romans gone as well. I think we need to complete the Roman war as stated, and then take the War against Germany in Napoleonic War, if we want to fight them then. Actually, I do think the Germans may still be useful, for a time, as they can provide us with further technology trades, beyond feudalism. We can still need a good continental partner as long as the Romans are angry at us. We halved the Roman empire, why keep a damaged jackal alive? Kill the jackal when it is down, and complete the hunt, not deviate from the core war.

This is all about the pyramids, and frankly put, I rather have the Germans as a strategic technology partner and a good ally in general. I would still like to see the interesting aspects of foreign diplomacy play out, not just boring demands to extort them all. That would create a more two dimensional game.
Keeping the Germans longer, will keep the game more interesting, civ endgames can be really boring in the endgames, I hate that.

So, Germany can wait, please let us kill off Rome.

Science and Economy

For the short term, Roman plunder will pay off the main debts, until the Roman War is over. This is why we need serfdom and vassalage now. Serfdom creates more cottages and improvements we need, and connects our empire, as well as accelerating builds with chopping wood. There is also a lot of jungle we need to cut down. There is no need to trade anything with the Romans, as they hate us. We need to kill them off, and make the deals with Germany.

Monotheism will give us organized religion, and manage to help us set up a series of buildings at a quicker rate. Slavery is not the way to go, as we need the cities to grow powerful and work the tiles.

Regarding the long wanted "Representation" civic, I think we should wait with that, as we need more people and infrastructure before we migrate to a more peaceful civic. Hereditary Rule will still serve its purpose in keeping our cities happy in a transitory period. We also need to occupy the Roman cities as well.

We should only maintain Vassalage until we got enough 3 promotion produced units, and then we should revert back to Bureaucracy. Then we need to spend the gold to upgrade our aging armies.

Our decisive Civic switch should make the Mongols, as they historically were, and being true to our core identity - a feudal empire.

Hereditary Rule, Vassalage (for a limited time, till we got the 3 promotion units we need, then back to bureaucracy), Serfdom, Decentralized Rule (later Mercantlism, as we got enough land) and Organized Religion (we need 25 % building production bonus for only 8 gold per turn).

We should definitively avoid Slavery, which will destabilise our people and halt our growth, we rather need our empire to be internally strong, and rather spend our future swelling populations ready for military drafts in a more new war. Then our elite veterans will be supplied with fresh recruits to fill the ranks.

We should end the stagnation of producing wealth in our best cities, we need to upgrade the buildings in the cities. This is like pissing in the pants to keep warm in my opinion. The Great Horde struggled with a similar economy in Civ3 demogame at Apolyton, and we fixed a similar problem there.

On a final note, we are already the only serious civilization left on the continent. There is no need to remove the friendly Germans, when we still got angered Romans to eliminate. Maintain good relations with the Germans, until they outlived their usefulness, and kill them later, when we know which other civilization are out there.

"Hegemony" is actually the same strategy than "domination; just different
tactic.
Domination requires stronger troops, but is faster and more rewarding; hegemony
precisely the opposite.
So, if we can go now against Germans, if not go on against Romans.
Best regards,

I have to ask, why just destroy the Romans, why not the Germans as well, what
advantages of keeping germany alive

The Germans may provide new research deals in the future as well, as good relations secure a good backchannel for diplomacy. This allows us to shape up our economy and figure out about what to do next.

I think we should complete the Roman War, and not deviate from the main course. The Germans are weak, and can easily be taken at a choice moment.

As I said previously, we must be the sole owners of this continent.

The question is if we have enough troops to fight against both at same time,

without too much sacrifice, or if we must take out one at a time.

Best regards,

The Germans will NOT trade with us when they know only 1 civ (us) after we've killed the Romans. So we could only trade with them again after we've (they've) met the other continent.

This is why we need to find the other continent at once, as we wrap up the Roman War in a nice fashion.
